An American called Kathrine – a resident of the Lin-gang Special Area in East China's Shanghai – made history on June 21 as the first foreign national to pass the 2024 National Accounting Professional Qualification Exam in the country.

When the results came through Kathrine was ecstatic: "I can't believe it — I took and passed the professional qualification exam in China!" she exclaimed.

Kathrine works in the integrated circuits equipment industry in Lin-gang. She registered for the exam in January, took it in May and scored 83 in Economic Law Fundamentals and 70 in Basic Accounting.

She said that participating in the national accounting exam had deepened her connection to Lin-gang, a vibrant and innovative area. Kathrine described the experience as both challenging and rewarding, offering her an opportunity to understand Chinese culture and the business environment better.

She added that she felt supported by Lin-gang's welcoming atmosphere for international talent, which provided a multicultural and inclusive environment.

Learning about the exam through international talent policy briefings hosted by the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, Kathrine pursued it to enhance her professional skills and competitiveness.

The administration provided comprehensive exam guidance and support, helping her understand the process and requirements. She expressed her gratitude for the smooth process and the support she received during her preparations.

Since its establishment, the Lin-gang Special Area has promoted comprehensive and high-level openness, allowing foreigners to apply for relevant professional qualification exams and identifying international work experience.

Kathrine's achievement is said to exemplify the area's commitment to institutional innovation and supporting international talent – demonstrating its focus on creating an excellent business environment for global professionals.
