Lin-gang releases strategy on green, low-carbon development
The Lin-gang Special Area – located in East China's Shanghai – unveiled an action plan to speed up its green and low-carbon development on Dec 14.
The aim is for the area to become a low-carbon benchmark setter.
The action plan covers six development systems for green energy, green industry, green buildings, green transportation, green ecology and a green life - to better coordinate carbon emissions and socio-economic development.
By 2025, Lin-gang will strive to have reduced the carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 20 percent compared with 2020 levels – and to increase the proportion of clean energy to reach 50 percent of total energy consumption.
Moreover, the area will seek an increasing proportion of new energies in the overall energy mix such as wind power, solar power and hydrogen.
For example, the area will aim to introduce 1,500 hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and focus on the applications scenarios for mining slag transportation, heavy freight, medium-volume buses and commuter shuttle buses.
In addition, the aim is for the peak load response capacity on the demand side to be 5 percent or more of maximum power consumption load by 2025.
Moreover, the eco-friendly space of Nanhui new town in the area will account for 55 percent of the total space, with the green space per capita at no less than 17 square meters and the forest coverage rate reaching 18 percent.
Plans are afoot for Lin-gang to take further steps to steer and coordinate green development cooperation, as well as to enhance the monitoring and reviews of its implementation.
