Lin-gang to become area with vast transport infrastructure
Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area recently announced an action plan for the next 15 years (2021-35) in which it will build itself up as an area with vast transport infrastructure.
Under the plan, by 2025 the Lin-gang industry and city integration zone will construct a new 110 kilometer-long backbone network of roads, while dedicated thoroughfares for tram cars with a larger passenger capacity than a bus will add another 50 km.
In addition, the coverage rate of bus stops every 500 meters in the main urban area will reach more than 80 percent.
The goal is that by 2035, it will take only 15 minutes to travel from Lin-gang to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, 30 minutes to reach the Longyang Road metro hub, 60 minutes to reach Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and 90 minutes to reach adjacent cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
The Lin-gang Special Area is positioning itself to become a world-class aviation hub with a global reach. It will build an international air express center and an air headquarters base. Moreover, the southern part of Shanghai Pudong International Airport will be developed as a civil aviation innovation demonstration zone with the international air transfer business as the core.
The construction of the Shanghai East Station hub and a rail freight hub, including Luchang Port, is also included in the action plan – as well as the construction of railways connecting to external routes.
Measures also listed in the plan to build a multi-level and multi-directional high-speed highway network in the Lin-gang Special Area.
In addition, the plan also outlines construction of a road freight system and an inland waterway freight system in Lin-gang.
