Lin-gang gears up for intelligent connected vehicles sector
The Lin-gang Special Area in Shanghai has mapped out four main applications scenarios for the development of its intelligent connected vehicles industry, or ICV sector in November.
The area is projected to become an advanced innovation zone for the ICV industry with 1,000 vehicles by 2025, under its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for the sector released on Oct 29.
The first development scenario is for the vehicles is to provide a public transportation service to residents in the Lin-gang Special area, such as operating intelligent connected buses, shuttle buses and taxis.
The Lin-gang Special Area is aiming to build a greener and efficient road freight system by exploring the installation of an intelligent connected trunk route in Lianggang Avenue.
Another potential scenario is to develop an intelligent connected distribution business. It is understood that the industry will deploy intelligent connected express vehicles in the main urban areas of Lin-gang, to reduce logistics costs and use other networked equipment such as drones in some closed areas.
Lin-gang will also explore innovative operations designed for the city's sanitation work – such as deploying intelligent connected sweepers on park roads, urban roads, highways and in other places.
Furthermore, the Lin-gang Special Area will build an intelligent transportation demonstration base with a total area of 4.3 square kilometers, and gradually open an additional 500 kilometers of road in the Lin-gang industry and city integration zone for testing ICVs.
The plan also outlines the tasks for upgrading the functions of the testing supervision platform. These range from data collection to capacity analysis, safety supervision, operations scheduling and test evaluations.
Moreover, supportive laws and regulations are being rolled out. Among others, these will secure permission for the operational testing of ICVs without the use of safety personnel.
