The taste buds of consumers are really firing up after Shanghai's locally grown peaches recently hit the market.

The first batch of Nanhui peaches – known far and wide for their taste and sweetness – have become available ahead of schedule.

In early July, the Yueya Agricultural Products Planting Professional Cooperative – in the Nanhui district of Shanghai – entered its peak period for picking and sorting.

With over 200 mu (13.33 hectares) of peaches gradually maturing, the cooperative is expected to produce 100,000 kilograms of peaches.

They are being sold through retail platforms such as Meituan Grocery Shopping – allowing consumers in Shanghai to enjoy freshly picked Nanhui peaches the next day.

Nanhui peaches are highly sought after by locals, but their sales period is very short, starting as early as July and ending by the end of the month.

Additionally, the early maturing peaches may not reach their optimal sweetness. Nanhui peaches have a limited window of around 10-20 days each year when they are at their very best, so missing out means waiting a whole year.

Currently, Nanhui peaches are available on the food delivery platform Meituan, where they meet the high standards for organic food.

They also come with a QR code for quality traceability – allowing consumers to enjoy them in advance – with delivery as fast as 30 minutes.
