Tesla's 10-millionth electric vehicle rolled off the production line at its Fremont Factory in the United States on July 30, making it the first automaker to hit the milestone. Nearly half of those vehicles were made at the Shanghai Gigafactory in Lin-gang Special Area.

What began with the delivery of the first batch of China-made Model 3 vehicles in December 2019 has evolved into one of Tesla's biggest success stories. Over the past six and a half years, Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory has produced more than 4.5 million electric vehicles, accounting for more than 45 percent of the company's global output. This makes it the electric carmaker's largest export hub in the world, with vehicles shipped to markets across the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.

That momentum has continued into 2026. Tesla delivered more than 830,000 vehicles worldwide from January to June, nearly 468,000 of which were produced by the Shanghai Gigafactory. The figure represented a year-on-year increase of 28.4 percent and the factory's highest first-half output in the past three years.

Beyond serving as a manufacturing hub, the factory has expanded its role by moving into product development. The Model Y L, which has already entered multiple overseas markets, was led by Tesla's China team in design, development, and manufacturing.
