The 2025 Frontier Forum on Future Chemical Engineering was held at the Lingang Center in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area on Nov 29.

The event focused on frontier topics such as AI-enabled green fuel synthesis and carbon dioxide capture, advancing the leading role of chemical engineering and low-carbon technologies in the technological revolution and industrial transformation.

The Shanghai Green Fuel Innovation Hub project and a disruptive piece of technology for the full carbon-directed conversion of biogas into green methanol were unveiled at the event, aiming to advance collaborative research and demonstration applications of key technologies across the green fuel industry chain.

An international think tank of the Shanghai Green Fuel Innovation Hub was launched at the event to provide expert guidance on green fuel technology development, process optimization, and innovation ecosystem construction.

The forum also featured two roundtable discussions, where experts engaged in in-depth dialogue on topics including the complete green fuel value chain, ways to achieve carbon neutrality, and future energy systems.

Participants also visited demonstration projects such as the Lin-gang base of the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering and Low-Carbon Technology under the East China University of Science and Technology.

Launched in 2024, the Lin-gang base focuses on new energy fuels such as green hydrogen and green LNG, and conducts technology R&D, process innovation, and industrial incubation.

An open platform for a green shipping industry alliance was launched at the event to bring together global leaders in green methanol production, testing, and certification, establishing a comprehensive industrial service ecosystem.

Moving forward, the forum will be held regularly to support Shanghai in establishing a leading comprehensive green energy service ecosystem.
