Attracted by the efficient vehicle distribution and turnover capabilities of Shanghai Port, where Nangang Terminal belongs, many major automakers chose to establish their roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) operations at Nangang. Currently, daily throughput averages about 3,000 vehicles, while peak-day operations can exceed 5,000 units.
Since the beginning of this year, Nangang Terminal has handled 614,000 vehicles for foreign trade, marking a year-on-year increase of over 40 percent, with exports up 37 percent. In addition, more than 100,000 imported vehicles have been transshipped through the terminal, up 11 percent compared with the same period last year.
The second phase of Nangang Terminal has started trial berthing of foreign trade Ro-Ro vessels. Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to witness a further increase in the number of ships and personnel passing through.
In response to Nangang Terminal's high volume of vessel arrivals at night, short berthing durations, and rapid berth turnover, the Yangshan Border Inspection Station has implemented round-the-clock duty shifts. Furthermore, the station has relocated its service windows closer to the frontline, streamlining the processing of various formalities. It has also upgraded its facilities to enhance its ability to monitor the arrival and departure dynamics of vessels, as well as the progress of Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) operations.
