A delegation of international representatives recently explored collaborative opportunities in cross-border healthcare and medical device innovation with Shanghai Pudong Hospital at the hospital's campus in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area.

The visit, involving participants from universities, hospitals, and enterprises across more than a dozen countries including Russia, Belarus, and Pakistan, took place after the formal establishment of the International Consortium for MedTech Industry-Academia Collaboration on June 21.

Shanghai Pudong Hospital's Lin-gang campus is strategically positioned to become a key medical hub within the Lin-gang Special Area, integrating medicine, engineering, and the healthcare industry by leveraging resources from Fudan University.

The campus plans to establish specialized centers focusing on fields such as maternal and child health, reproductive medicine, neuroscience, oncology, dermatology, and rehabilitation.

The Lin-gang campus aims to provide both fundamental medical services and specialized, high-quality care with international diagnostics and treatment capabilities, according to Yu Jing, vice-president of the hospital.

During their visit, the international delegation toured the hospital's key research platforms and specialized treatment areas, including the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Vascular Lesions Intervention and Remodeling.

They observed precise diagnosis and treatment procedures in the Digestive Endoscopy Center and experienced traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatments in the comprehensive TCM health management area.

The delegation expressed interest in comprehensive collaboration with the hospital in fields like medical device testing, large animal experiments, and TCM treatment, according to Tan Yang, director of the International Work Committee of the Lin-gang Medical Device Innovation Center.

Karasev Mikhail, general manager of the National Coordinating Center for International Business Cooperation of Russia, noted the growing demand for high-quality TCM services in Russia and surrounding countries.

He proposed a joint effort with Shanghai Pudong Hospital to conduct medical consultations in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, exploring opportunities in international medical tourism and cross-border healthcare incorporating TCM treatments.

Mikhail also suggested the establishment of a joint testing center between Shanghai Pudong Hospital and leading Russian universities and medical institutions for the safety validation of innovative medical devices.

Li Jiyu, president of Shanghai Pudong Hospital, said that the hospital had already initiated valuable explorations to foster cross-border healthcare cooperation networks as one of the inaugural signatories of cross-border medical services, education, medical insurance, and settlement cooperation programs when the Lin-gang Special Area’s cross-border medical initiative was unveiled in March.
