Nayuta Space will build the first integrated project for the R&D, assembly, and testing of reusable launch vehicles in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area.

As China's commercial space industry enters a pivotal phase of transition from technological validation to large-scale commercialization, reusable rockets are emerging as a way to lower costs and support the deployment of low-Earth orbit satellite constellations. 

Nayuta Space's Xuanniao rocket distinguishes itself from conventional vertical-landing approaches with its aerodynamic deceleration technology. By turning atmospheric drag into a natural braking force during re-entry, the technology cuts fuel use, extends engine service life, and brings down launch costs.

The company's R&D center in Lin-gang's Innovation Cube will bring together 80 employees, including 50 R&D specialists, to work on Xuanniao rocket's early-stage technological iteration and ground testing. Key areas of focus will include precise digital simulation and modeling, coordinated electrical testing and control, and the testing and validation of structural mechanics.

Meanwhile, the facility in Lin-gang Fengxian Industrial Park will handle the final assembly and full-process testing of the Xuanniao R's maiden-flight and backup vehicles. An expansion is planned for 2027 alongside the rocket's maiden flight to gradually build up capacity for batch launches.

According to Nayuta Space, large liquid-fuel rockets over 4 meters in diameter are costly and logistically challenging to transport by land. Lin-gang's extensive waterway network allows rockets to be shipped directly from the factory to launch sites, a key factor in the company's decision to set up operations here.
