Shanghai Port sets new record for biomass methanol bunkering
Over 8,000 metric tons of domestically produced biomass methanol were supplied to CMA CGM Osmium at Shanghai Port recently — the world's largest single-vessel bunkering operation of its kind, more than doubling the 3,643-ton record set earlier this year.

The milestone was achieved as a result of the cooperation between SIPG Energy, CMA CGM, and Shanghai Electric, which began with the signing of a long-term biomass methanol supply agreement on March 20, 2025.
Building on this, the three parties are leveraging their complementary strengths across the value chain: CMA CGM brings its global shipping network and low-carbon fleet, creating stable demand and application scenarios; Shanghai Electric boasts a strong production and supply base backed by its expertise in biomass methanol; and SIPG Energy breaks down barriers across the entire process, from fuel transportation and storage to bunkering through its port resources and established service network.
Together, they are helping bring biomass methanol into large-scale, efficient and reliable application in the shipping sector, supporting the industry's green transition with more green fuel options and services to follow.
