Lin-gang pioneers direct green power connection in Shanghai
Shanghai will step up its efforts to promote direct green power connection, with Lin-gang Special Area already leading the way.
Direct green power connection refers to a model in which renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and biomass power directly supply users through dedicated lines, rather than being connected to the public power grid.
Users can choose between a "one-to-one" model, in which a renewable power plant supplies electricity exclusively to one company, and a "one-to-many" model, in which multiple companies share a single transmission line.
The Work Plan for the Orderly Development of Direct Green Power Connection in Shanghai was recently unveiled by the Municipal Development and Reform Commission. It aims to establish a full-cycle service support system for direct green power connection by 2030, with 500,000 kilowatts of renewable energy generation capacity on the supply side.
In Lin-gang, the groundwork is already being laid. The world's first underwater data center powered directly by wind energy began operations in May. The project has a planned capacity of 24 megawatts spread across two phases, including 2.3 megawatts in the first-phase demonstration project. More than 95 percent of the electricity comes from renewable sources.
Construction of the sole national-level zero-carbon industrial park in Shanghai was launched in Lin-gang in the same month. A key feature of the park is its direct supply of green power to factories. The share of green power in the park's electricity mix is set to rise from 20 percent to 50 percent within three years.
