Amazon's new global warehousing & distribution (GWD) facility has begun operations in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area, giving a boost to the development of the local cross-border e-commerce industry.

The Yangtze River Delta region is home to leading manufacturing clusters in sectors such as small home appliances, home furnishings, and consumer electronics, with many export-oriented businesses based in Lin-gang and neighboring cities. 

The new facility is well positioned to meet the region's growing demand for cross-border logistics, supported by the Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone's preferential policies and Yangshan Port's extensive international shipping network.

It offers nearly 20,000 square meters of warehouse space for fully automated cargo storage, sorting and distribution in the first phase, with total capacity set to expand to 160,000 square meters upon full completion. 

The GWD system initially connects the Lin-gang hub to Amazon's US fulfillment network and will later expand to regions such as Canada, the European Union, Japan, and the United Kingdom. This allows sellers to serve multiple markets from a single inventory pool and reduce overseas storage costs.
