Shanghai Nangang Terminal marks first export of energy storage cabinets
A shipment of China-produced energy storage cabinets has officially set sail at the Shanghai Nangang Terminal in Lin-gang Special Area, marking a new milestone for the terminal's export business.
Forty-six cabinets were transferred onto the Liberian-flagged vessel Kraszewski on March 22, bound for the European market alongside 717 other items including transformers, cooling units, and wind turbines.

Energy storage cabinets are most economically shipped by sea due to their size and weight. To support their export and serve manufacturers in the Yangtze River Delta region and Lin-gang for international markets, a dedicated storage area has been established, making the terminal the only port in Shanghai authorized to export them.
Lin-gang has now gathered more than 20 energy storage companies, including the Tesla Shanghai Megafactory and CATL, forming a complete supply chain from demonstration projects and storage systems to core equipment and battery materials. Nearby export through the terminal helps lower logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and support high-quality international trade.
Classified as Class Nine miscellaneous dangerous goods under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code, energy storage cabinets require strict safety management throughout the transport and export process. This operation, the terminal's first for such cargo, involved the complex handling of a diverse range of large items over extended ship-docking periods.
To ensure safe and efficient loading, Yangshan Border Inspection Station maintained an around-the-clock presence and full-chain monitoring, overseeing crew rotations, refueling, and docking operations to keep the process secure, smooth, and orderly.
