Peruvian frozen avocados debut in Chinese market
An unveiling ceremony for the first shipment of Peruvian frozen avocados to China was held at the Yangshan Free Trade Zone in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area on Sept 11. This marks the debut of this premium agricultural product from South America in the Chinese market.
The Chancay Port in Peru, a pioneering smart and green port in South America that started operating last November, offers an efficient channel for shipping Peruvian agricultural exports to China, with significantly reduced time and costs compared to previously available options.
Peru is the world's second-largest avocado exporter, with annual shipments exceeding 670,000 metric tons and export revenues surpassing $1.5 billion. The adoption of freezing technology preserves the fruit's fresh taste, nutritional value, and stable quality, enabling efficient long-distance transportation and storage.
This initiative not only offers Chinese consumers a new culinary choice but also paves the way for more of Peru's high-quality agricultural products to enter the Chinese market. For Peruvian producers, it opens a reliable export channel, while the Chinese foodservice, hospitality, and retail sectors gain access to a year-round stable supply of premium avocados.
