Yangshan Phase IV automated terminal contributes to Shanghai Port's throughput record
Shanghai Port, China's largest container port, achieved a milestone by handling over 5.02 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in August, setting a new monthly throughput record. Notably, the Yangshan Phase IV automated terminal, located in the city's Lin-gang Special Area, contributed significantly, with over 710,000 TEUs processed, a own monthly high for the terminal.
Shanghai Port's exceptional performance can be attributed to its status as a global hub, demonstrating efficiency and resilience that impressed international shipping companies and peers alike.
Zhou Yong, deputy general manager of the production business division at Shanghai Port Group, emphasized that accelerating digital transformation and optimizing port services are key to Shanghai Port's ability to handle an increasing number of containers.
The continuous iteration of the two automated terminals of Shanghai Port, Yangshan Phase IV and Luojing Container Port Area, plays a vital role in improving the port's capacity. The intelligent operation control system, upgraded through digital twin technology and big data analysis, has enhanced Yangshan Phase IV's overall quay crane handling efficiency by 5.37 percent.
