Foreign talent flock to Lin-gang Special Area

Dr. Mujtaba Naaseri from Afghanistan recently moved his family to Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area after attending the fourth international talent innovation and entrepreneurship promotion conference, which was held in the area in June.

Impressed by the area's international policies, modern infrastructure, and vibrant community, Mujtaba remarked, "Lin-gang is set to become a globally recognized living destination."

Lin-gang Special Area has introduced various policies to attract young talent from around the world. The human resources department of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration recently launched new initiatives to enhance talent recruitment, including increasing the internship subsidies for undergraduates, master's, and doctoral students. College students from other provinces and cities, and overseas colleges and universities who are not registered in Shanghai can receive additional transportation and accommodation subsidies.

Yang Wu, deputy director of the human resources department of the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, explained that around 25 percent of interns chose to stay and work in Lin-gang after their internships.

Ahsan Muhammad, a Pakistani student from East China Normal University, is setting up a business in Lin-gang. He praised the area's commitment to attracting global talent. "My family has run a business in Pakistan for over 50 years, collaborating with Chinese companies since 2001. To expand our business, I plan to start a trading company in Shanghai," said Ahsan.

After attending the fourth international talent innovation and entrepreneurship promotion conference in June, Ahsan received detailed guidance on starting a business in Lin-gang, strengthening his resolve to establish his company here.

Yang Wu highlighted policies supporting international talent, such as the establishment of the Overseas Returnees Entrepreneurship Park of Lin-gang Special Area and providing a five-year residency permit, a fast track for permanent residency, and a fast channel for foreign professionals to take domestic qualification exams.

Since 2020, Lin-gang Special Area has seen a steady increase in talent introduction. As of June 2024, a total of 94,018 talented professionals have been enticed to settle in the area, with an average annual growth rate of 97.23 percent.
