The COSCO Shipping Green Water 01, the world's first 10,000-ton pure electric container ship, completed its inaugural journey on April 22, docking at Shanghai's Yangshan Port under the remote electronic escort of the port's Maritime Safety Administration.

This groundbreaking vessel, the largest of its kind globally, will operate between Nanjing, Jiangsu province, and Yangshan Port, ushering in a new era of zero emissions, zero pollution, and zero noise for the entire river-sea transportation route.

Measuring 119.8 meters in length, with a beam of 23.6 meters, a depth of 9 meters, a designed draft of 5.5 meters, and a top speed of 19.4 kilometers per hour, the ship can save 3,900 kilograms of fuel, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12.4 tons, and cut energy costs by approximately 33,500 yuan ($4,623.5) for every 100 nautical miles traveled.

Equipped with a battery capacity exceeding 50,000 kilowatt-hours, the ship can dynamically adjust the number of battery packs as needed, addressing issues such as extended charging times, low loading capacity, and limited cruising range typically associated with traditional electric container ships. As the world's pioneering vessel of its kind, it has achieved breakthroughs in several key technologies.

Throughout its maiden voyage, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration ensured the vessel's safe entry, berthing, and the secure operation of charging and battery exchange within the port.
