The Lin-gang Special Area in East China's Shanghai held a groundbreaking ceremony on Feb 18 for four key construction projects involving total investment of 17.6 billion yuan ($2.45 billion).

The projects, among others, span commerce, culture, sports, tourism and infrastructure.

One of them, the planned 103 Sports Complex, is a high-profile venture because it's the first comprehensive sports venue in the area. Located near Chenghe Port and Dishui Lake, it will feature various facilities such as swimming pools, gyms, bowling alleys, archery ranges, basketball courts, billiards halls, table tennis areas, badminton courts and multifunctional spaces.

With a total investment topping 400 million yuan, the plan is to construct a three-level above-ground and a two-level underground sports complex.

Another notable project is the Traffic Police Command and Accident Handling Center, which will provide essential services and training facilities. Costing 227 million yuan, the center will extend east to Liangang Avenue, south to X2 Road, west to Bailong Port and north to Lyuligang.

Additionally, the planned Yuyu Road Stormwater Pump Station, costing 380 million yuan, involves constructing essential stormwater infrastructure.

This includes intake culverts, pump houses, substations and support facilities. On completion it will serve an area of about 3 square kilometers, ensuring effective drainage in the Lin-gang Special Area.
