Shanghai Rongrong New Materials and the Baise municipal government signed an agreement on Sept 8, which will see the former build the country's largest alumina continuous fiber mass production base in the city in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
The new base will cost 10.7 billion yuan ($1.47 billion) to build.

Based in the Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai Rongrong New Materials is currently one of China's most influential alumina fiber manufacturers. It produces 400 metric tons of alumina continuous fiber and filament products, as well as 600 tons of alumina staple fiber annually.
In 2022, the company became the first Chinese enterprise to have an industrialized mass production capacity for alumina continuous fiber. It was also the third largest company of its kind in the world. 
The company's alumina fiber products, including clothes, tapes, ropes, sleeves, and yarns, are widely used in high-end composite materials such as resins, metals, and ceramics.
The base in Baise will focus on research, development, and production of alumina fiber-based civil products through independent research. It is expected to have an annual production capacity of approximately 12,500 tons.
