During the third quarter, Tesla produced approximately 447,000 EVs worldwide and delivered 497,000 units. The Shanghai Gigafactory alone delivered over 90,000 vehicles in September.
On the energy storage front, Tesla's energy storage business also made progress in the third quarter, with global installed capacity exceeding 12.5 GWh, boosted by a production ramp-up at the Shanghai Megafactory for energy storage in Lin-gang, which is also Tesla's first such facility outside the US.
Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory broke ground in January 2019 and went into production at the end of the year, creating a "Tesla speed" in the project construction thanks to Lin-gang's and Shanghai's continuously optimized business environment. Construction on the Shanghai Megafactory commenced in Lin-gang on May 23 last year, and the factory achieved the milestone of producing its first product just nine months after acquiring the land. This timeline is three months ahead of the 12-month period for Tesla's previous vehicle factory.
