German companies are accelerating the development of a new automotive ecosystem in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area.

Elektrobit, a German automotive software company, signed a cooperation agreement with the Lin-gang Special Area Administration at Auto Shanghai 2025 on April 24. Under the agreement, Elektrobit will establish its China headquarters and an innovation and R&D center in the area.

As one of the world's top three providers of foundational automotive software, Elektrobit brings deep expertise in embedded software, AUTOSAR operating systems, and autonomous driving technologies. The partnership with Lin-gang is expected to further strengthen its presence in China by integrating software R&D, sales, and management operations locally.

Once established in Lin-gang, Elektrobit plans to team up with local companies and academic institutions to foster the development of a comprehensive operating system ecosystem.

In a parallel development, German automotive technology supplier ZF Group inaugurated its remanufacturing center in the Yangshan Free Trade Zone on June 24, 2025. The facility is set to serve as the company's Asia-Pacific remanufacturing headquarters.

The 4,855-square-meter facility is equipped with advanced manufacturing and testing equipment, including electrohydraulic controller test benches and transmission assembly test benches.

Designed as a comprehensive circular economy demonstration hub integrating multiple functions and services, the center is set to serve as a replicable model for green remanufacturing.
