Nicheng town in the Lin-gang Special Area, once an obscure township in southeastern Shanghai, has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years.

During the first half of this year, the town attracted 536 new enterprises, which brought in an additional registered capital of 4 billion yuan ($557.37 million).

Since Tesla established its Shanghai Gigafactory in Nicheng in 2019, the town, which is often referred to as "Tesla Town", has seen the emergence of numerous intelligent manufacturing enterprises, giving rise to a new energy industrial chain.

According to Jia Tingwen, the operation manager of Yanfeng Seating's assembly workshop, the decision to settle in Nicheng was primarily based on its proximity to Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, which is only around 6 kilometers away, and SAIC Motor. This makes it extremely convenient for the seat company to supply both companies.

The flourishing automobile industry cluster in Nicheng has not only accelerated local industrial upgrading but also become a significant catalyst for improving the public transportation network and other essential facilities in the surrounding areas. This has, in turn, provided better living and working conditions for the local residents.
