The expansion of the production plant of manufacturer GTA Semiconductor Co Ltd is reportedly making significant progress in the Lin-gang Special Area of East China's Shanghai.

The main steel structure is expected to be fully capped by the end of September.

The project, situated in the heavy equipment industrial zone of the Lin-gang Special Area, is being built by contractor China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp Ltd.

It will cover a floor space of 220,000 square meters and is projected to be completed in approximately 600 days.

The objective of the project is to expand the production of advanced automotive-grade computer chips for the company.

The expansion aims to enhance the factory's scale and achieve mass production of automotive chips, including power devices, analog ICs and MCU products.

On completion, it's projected to boost domestic chip manufacturing technology, broaden process technology platforms and offer comprehensive manufacturing solutions for automotive-grade chips.

As a result, the company says it will effectively address the current bottlenecks in domestic automotive chip manufacturing technology and ensure national industrial and information security.

The project is expected to commence production by the end of 2023.
