Developed by Chinese autonomous driving startup Utopilot, the five trucks were put into use in November 2019.
With the help of 5G and L4 self-driving technology, the fleet can offer point-to-point delivery services between Yangshan Port, Donghai Bridge, and the Lin-gang collection and distribution center.
L4 autonomy means the vehicle can drive itself under most circumstances without a human driver.
Over the past four years, the intelligent vehicles have transported about 230,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of standard containers, further enhancing the throughput capacity of Yangshan Port, and promoting the rapid and large-scale application of unmanned commercial operations.
According to Utopilot, the company Youdao Zhitu will deploy another 200 intelligent heavy trucks to carry out all-weather and automated trucking.
