Construction recently began on the expansion of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Shanghai Yangshan Deep-Water Port.

This new terminal will feature a 150,000-metric-ton berth that is designed to accommodate LNG carriers with capacities of 150,000 to 180,000 cubic meters.

The new terminal, a key part of the LNG station line expansion, will have a butterfly layout with one working platform, six berthing dolphins, six mooring dolphins, a main trestle, and a flare platform. It will handle LNG carriers ranging from 50,00 to 266,000 cu m, with an annual throughput capacity of 6 million tons.

The construction site is in a shallow area between existing LNG and oil terminals, posing significant challenges due to the narrow and complex navigation environment. The project involves the use of piling ships, cranes, and material transport ships with varied routes and long travel distances, resulting in high safety risks.

To ensure smooth progress, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration has streamlined its permit process, provided detailed guidance, and held safety coordination meetings. During construction, they will offer precise weather warnings, monitor maritime traffic, and conduct vessel inspections to maintain high safety standards.
