Shanghai's Yangshan Port has witnessed a surge in international shipping traffic, with over 9,640 vessel visits in 2023, a 7 percent increase from the previous year and a record high since 2013.

The number of passengers traveling through the Yangshan border inspection checkpoint reached more than 236,000, marking a 10 percent growth and setting a historic record for the port.

According to statistics from Yangshan's border inspection authority, there were over 130 international roll-on/roll-off vessel visits in 2023, a remarkable 75 percent increase compared to the previous year.

As a crucial hub for international shipping, Yangshan Deep Water Port witnessed a surge in the berthing of new energy vessels with low-carbon emissions in 2023, contributing to a record-high number of foreign vessels entering and leaving the port throughout the year.

To meet carbon reduction requirements, major shipping companies have launched newly built ships that comply with the new emission standards, leading to a global leading position in terms of China's shipbuilding.

To meet increasing demand, Yangshan's border inspection authority has enhanced its management and service capabilities. It has established a cooperative mechanism with inspection units and maritime public security departments at various ports, promoting information exchange, regulatory recognition, and law enforcement assistance to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
