An urgently needed integrated circuits industry, or IC training center was launched on Oct 24 in the Lin-gang Special Area, situated in East China's Shanghai.

The center – supported by the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, Shanghai University and the Shanghai Integrated Circuit Industry Association – is designed to further expand the training and cultivation of talent in the IC industry in Shanghai.

Over the past three years, Lin-gang has attracted more than 180 leading IC groups, including SMIC and GTA Semiconductor, which have poured in over 290 billion yuan ($43.5 billion) in investments.

As a result, Lin-gang has transformed its IC sector into a dominant industry with the biggest investment scale, the highest degree of industrial agglomeration and the most complete industrial supply chain in the area.

Moving forwards, plans are for Lin-gang to pave the way for its IC industrial park – Oriental IC Port – to become a world-class integrated circuits industry base with global influence and competitiveness.
