Life Science Blue Bay, a life science and technology industrial park in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, signed agreements for biomedical projects involving a total investment of 5.4 billion yuan ($741 million) during the recent 2023 Shanghai International Biomedical Industry Week.

The projects, signed on Oct 19 with enterprises including Yinnuo, Ruikang, Taichu and GlaxoSmithKline, are related to biomedical fields such as gene therapy, synthetic biology, high-end medical devices, vaccines, small molecule drug research and development, contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) and contract research organization (CRO).

The signing ceremony coincided with the Synthetic Biology Technology Innovation Industry Conference, which focused on aspects of industrialization, standardization, intelligence and internationalization in the field of synthetic biology.

The Lin-gang Medical Device Innovation Center by the Lin-gang Special Area Administration and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology was also unveiled during the event.

The industrial park also conferred the title of "Excellent Investment Partner of Life Science Blue Bay" to 12 enterprises and the title of "Emerging Synthetic Biology Enterprise in 2023" to eight companies in the park.

Life Science Blue Bay, which has undertaken 40 percent of Shanghai's new biomedical projects in recent years, has become an integral base for Shanghai's biomedical industry and gathered more than 150 biomedical companies and institutions.

The park has become an innovation base that integrates basic research, technological research, achievement incubation, production and manufacturing, technology finance and support services.
