Singaporean Chung Ruyu recently became the first expat to enter China with an electronic visa, taking up his role as the chief strategist for financial and trade services in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area.

With over 22 years of experience in global finance, Chung is now fully engaged in driving Lin-gang's financial sector forward.

Impressed by the special area's rapid development and strategic location, Chung is confident in its potential. As Lin-gang approaches its fifth anniversary, it continues to lead with bold reforms and innovative financial policies.

Lin-gang has made significant strides in developing financial policies and frameworks tailored to its unique economic functions. From facilitating the first commercial flight of China's domestically produced C919 aircraft with full renminbi settlement, to pioneering financial leasing for integrated circuit equipment, Lin-gang is at the forefront of innovation.

Over the past five years, the area has introduced several firsts in China, including the nation's first foreign-controlled joint venture wealth management company and the launch of the first coastal carriage business by a foreign shipping company. These initiatives have set a replicable model for future developments in Shanghai and beyond.

Chung encourages those interested in Lin-gang's growth to visit and see the progress firsthand.
