The national intelligent connected vehicle, or ICV industry metrology test center was established on May 17 in Lin-gang Special Area, located in East China's Shanghai.
Metrology is the science of measurements and their applications.
The facility, the only one of its kind in the country, aims to support the development of the intelligent terminal industry in Shanghai.
It will focus on metrology testing throughout the various stages of ICV research, development and production – addressing key challenges and promoting high-quality development in the field.
ICV technology serves as a crucial foundation for the safe and reliable operation of assisted driving and future autonomous driving technologies.
Utilizing advanced metrological instruments such as millimeter-wave radar and laser probes as its "eyes", it seeks to accurately measure and perceive the surrounding road environment, enabling real-time interaction between essential driving data – including distance, speed, direction and the vehicle's operating status. This aims to achieve vehicle-road cooperation and enhance the precision of ICVs.
