Advanced alumina new materials plant starts up in Lin-gang

The first phase of an advanced manufacturing plant being operated by Shanghai Rongrong New Material Technology Co Ltd – located in the Lin-gang Special Area, in East China's Shanghai – started operating on Oct 25.

The plant has the ability to research and produce high-temperature resistant alumina fiber new materials, making it the third company in the world and the first in China to have the capacity for mass production of such products.

Alumina continuous fiber is internationally recognized as a new generation of high-temperature resistant components. It is widely used in aviation, aerospace, the maritime sector, thermoelectrics, petrochemicals, semiconductors, automotive production and in high-temperature furnaces and in other high-end fields.

It is also the only high-performance fiber material that has not gone into stable mass production in China to date. The plant's first phase is equipped with the world-leading and high-temperature resistant materials R&D and production capabilities.

The Lin-gang Special Area Administration signed up for the project with Shanghai Rongrong two years ago. Since then, it has offered its complete assistance to expedite it.

It took only a year from the factory starting construction last October, despite the effect of COVID-19.

Phase I is projected to have an annual production capacity of 700 metric tons.
